Its hips are golden, yellow and green, while its belly comes in silver-white. These colours have a special shine to them, but when the Dolphinfish dies, so do its colours. The Dolphinfish grows up to 1.8 m in length and weighs approx. 40kg and lives from 3 to 5 years. The Adriatic Dolphinfish is slightly smaller than its ocean-dwelling counterparts.

The sea bass likes to stay in the brackish water, more precisely in river mouths, which makes the Gulf of Piran a perfect Sea Bass habitat. It spawns from January to March. Its back is metallic grey and its belly silver-white. Sea Bass grow up to 1 m and can weigh more than 10 kg.

Tuna found in the Adriatic Sea can weigh from 30 to 200 kg or more.

It lives near the seabed, where it blends in with its surroundings and stalks its prey. Red Scorpionfish can grow up to 50 cm and weigh over 5 kg, with a large mouth representing a great portion of their bodies. As its name implies, this fish is characterized by a red to reddish-brown colour, and has numerous outgrowths and sPikes protruding from its body. The sPikes located on the back have poisonous glands and are painful if stabbed by. According to statistics, Red Scorpionfish weighing 0.5 kg are commonly caught in the Adriatic, their meat, however, comes at a high market value.

It has a hydrodynamic, slender and elongated body that ends in a very strong tail. It’s one of the fastest fish, reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h. Its back is dark blue and brown and its belly is silver or light grey in colour. The Swordfish is characterised by a small head with large eyes that can see exceptionally well in the dark. Its long and flat beak is an extended upper jaw. Swordfish live in pairs or small schools and are found almost everywhere. Their main natural habitat can be found in the Mediterranean along the coastlines of Sicily and Malta, while in the Atlantic they are present mainly near South America and Africa, with fewer numbers swimming off the US coast. Most Swordfish close to Slovenia are found in the southern and central Adriatic, and tend to dwell at greater depths.

It’s an incredibly adaptable fish and can be found in both manmade and natural habitats – flowing or standing. Thanks to its Rainbow-coloured flank and tiny black dots, this Trout is easily distinguishable from other fish. It can reach a size of 90 cm and weigh up to 10 kg, with the average fishing size between 26 (min. size) and 50 cm. The Rainbow Trout is much braver and more aggressive than its Marble and brown counterparts, which makes its powerful flight tough but very enjoyable. You can catch this creature from the end of March until the end of October.

It’s a predator fish with large, sharp teeth. This olive greenish creature can grow up to 130 cm in length and can weigh more than 20 kg, with the minimum size set at 70 cm. Calm, peaceful waters are its preferences, like lakes, ponds and middle to lower sections of rivers. The Pike season runs from the beginning of May to the end of January.
