Its upper course is much too small for fish, but from its first dam downwards, the red-dotted brown Trout appears, signalling the start of the fishing area. The Radovna, which carves its way through the famous Vintgar Gorge until joins Sava Dolinka, is an exceptional fly-fishing destination. Due to its low temperature, the Trout don’t grow to amazing sizes, but the diverse and picturesque landscape make the river into a surreal fishing experience.

Sava https://fishing-guides-slovenia.com/river/sava/ Tue, 02 Jun 2020 12:11:08 +0000 http://fishing-guides-slovenia.com/river/sava/ Continued]]> Before merging into one, there are two Sava rivers in Slovenia – the Sava Dolinka and Sava Bohinjka.

Sava Bohinjka springs from Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest natural lake. Besides being home to all Grayling varieties, the brown and Rainbow Trout, the Sava Bohinjka is fantastic for catching Huchen. An occasional Chub is also known to drift from the lake downstream. Most of Sava Bohinjka is easily accessible and its alternating cascades, pools and sandbanks are a fly-fisherman’s dream.

Sava Dolinka, emerges to the surface near the Slovenia-Italian border. The river is lush with Trout and Grayling can be spotting swimming further downstream. The Moste reservoir is where fish tend to grow, with giant Rainbow Trout having been caught in its waters.

After the Sava Bohinjka and Sava Dolinka confluence, the river gets the name Sava. Its gravel beds, deep pools and sharp passages are perfect if you’re looking for a wilder fishing experience. It flows through the town of Kranj, where the largest Huchen (127 cm, 24.8 kg) was caught. In and around Lake Trboje many other species can be fished, like the Chub, Barbel, perch, zander, and Carp.

Soča https://fishing-guides-slovenia.com/river/soca/ Mon, 01 Jun 2020 21:15:00 +0000 http://fishing-guides-slovenia.com/river/soca/ Continued]]> Flowing through the breath-taking Trenta Valley in the Julian Alps, the Soča is the most iconic river in Slovenia. Its upper parts are full of cascades, rapids and pools that can be accessed easily from the road. This stunning alpine river then weaves its way through a canyon, where fishing takes on a very back-to-nature turn. The fish populous is plentiful throughout the Soča. It includes the Marble, brown and Rainbow Trout and Grayling, which differs from other Grayling species in Slovenian. Chub and Barbel can also be found in its tributaries Lepenjica, Koritnica and Nadiža. The Soča’s gravel bottoms and pools make it suitable for fly-fishing throughout most of the year.
