Description
Your mixed 3-day fishing holiday begins with a visit to one of Slovenia’s most beautiful regions, the Alps. There you will meet with our fly fishing guide who will provide you with everything needed for you to put your fly fishing skills on the test on the crystal clear Soča river, where your main goal will be to catch a Marbel trout or one of many other fish that reside in the river. After a successful day we will drive you down to the Adriatic coast, where in the next 2 days you will join our Big game fishing guide on his boat. As for the second half of your vacation, your main goal is to catch the most prestigious fish of the Adriatic, the Tuna.
In case you would like to include another type of fishing into your holidays or maybe add one more day to it, we suggest you to click on the Tailor-made fishing holidays under the tab Fishing holidays, where you can create holidays according to your wishes.
Fish
The Marble Trout is the trout family’s biggest and most iconic representative. It can grow up to 130 cm in length, 22 kg in weight, and has a distinct olive-green marble pattern which makes it stand out from other members of its family.
The Grayling is one of Europe’s most popular fly-fishing species, which has seen quite a steep decline in population around the continent. But do not threat, this fish is well-preserved in Slovenia’s waters. Although an increasing number of 50 cm Grayling have been reported in recent years, the minimum size catch measures 45 cm. Characterised by their colourful dorsal fin, Grayling prefer to swim in calmer sections of rivers and fishing with the use of an artificial fly makes it a perfect catch throughout the mid-May to end of October season.
Season: Ordinary Grayling: April 1st – November 30th (Soča river April 1st – November 30th)
Adriatic Grayling: May 16th – November 30th
Slovenian record: 63 cm
As Slovenia’s most widespread Trout species, the Brown Trout can be caught at sizes ranging from 25 (min. size) to 50 cm. It’s mainly found in upper and middle reaches of rivers and streams, Karst waters being home to the largest. This wonderful fish’s colour patterns can vary between dark grey, copper-red, olive green, or yellow-brown, sprinkled with red, white and black spots. The Brown Trout is a beauty that can be found in most popular fishing spots around Slovenia. The fishing season runs from March to November.
Season: March 1st – September 30th
Sharing many of Slovenia’s waters with the Brown Trout is the gorgeous Rainbow Trout. It’s an incredibly adaptable fish and can be found in both manmade and natural habitats – flowing or standing. Thanks to its Rainbow-coloured flank and tiny black dots, this Trout is easily distinguishable from other fish. It can reach a size of 90 cm and weigh up to 10 kg, with the average fishing size between 26 (min. size) and 50 cm. The Rainbow Trout is much braver and more aggressive than its Marble and brown counterparts, which makes its powerful flight tough but very enjoyable. You can catch this creature from the end of March until the end of October.
Season: March 1st – November 30th (Soča river April 1st – November 30th)
Tuna is a saltwater predator. There are 15 types of Tuna, ranging in size from 50 cm to 4.6 m and weighing up to 684 kg (bluefin Tuna). It’s one of the few species that can maintain their body temperature higher than that of the water they swim in. Their hydrodynamic bodies make Tuna enviably fast. Tuna found in the Adriatic Sea can weigh from 30 to 200 kg or more.
Fishing guides
I graduated in forestry engineering, but fishing has been a passion of mine since I was 3 years old when my dad first took me fishing. I enjoy all types of fishing techniques, but for the past 20 years I have focused mainly on fly fishing and spin fishing. Nymphing is still my favourite. I’ve gained my experience while fishing on practically every Slovenian river and lake. I’m fluent in English and German.
I’ve been a carp fisherman for ages, but in recent years, this sport has become a great part of my life. I spend over 100 day per year fishing, spending all my free time by the water, mainly in Slovenia and neighbouring Croatia. As a member of the Bled fishing family, Lake Bled is my prime fishing location. It’s also where I set my record of catching a 27.8 kg fish.
My other favourite fishing spots are Šmartinsko Lake, Lake Slivnica and the Ljubljanica River. I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge with you and help you catch your next trophy-size fish.
My story began in 1976 as a young fisherman’s son. We spent all summers on the coast and curiosity led me to explore Croatian islands lengthwise and crosswise. During my 35 years of experience, the sea has become my second home and I often consider it as my first home as well. At the moment, I’m practicing top-level fishing: Big Game Fishing. My other love is cooking and culinary has been my core business over the past 20 years.
With my knowledge of food science, nutrition and dietary knowledge, I opened restaurants in Slovenia as well as catering services all over Europe.
